Russian President Vladimir Putin was right in his 2007 Munich speech

Russian President Vladimir Putin was right in his 2007 Munich speech and the situation in the world has deteriorated since then, former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl told RIA Novosti.

February 10 marks the 15th anniversary of Putin's famous Munich Security Conference speech. He harshly criticized US foreign policy, unipolar world order and spoke out sharply against NATO expansion plans and the deployment of US missile defense installations in Eastern Europe.

"At that time there was talk about a new Cold War, which was about to start, before the war in Georgia, so the speech was actually in the intermediate phase. Some things are perhaps better judged 15 years later, and I have come to the conclusion that President Putin was very right then in his words and in his warnings," Kneisl said.

According to her, all of today's diplomatic meetings and correspondence are just a result of the lack of activity over the past 15 years, primarily from the West.

"When I watched this speech again a few days ago, I thought it made a lot of sense. Immediately you can feel how much personal, how much reflection there is in it. I would say that, in fact, about everything President Putin said then, I have to say that, first, he was unfortunately right, and second, since then things have become even worse and more complicated," the agency's interlocutor stated.

The main theses the Russian President announced on February 10, 2007:

No one feels safe anymore, no one can hide behind international law like a stone wall.

# A unipolar model is not only unacceptable in today's world, but also impossible.

# The only decision-making mechanism on the use of military force as a last resort can only be the UN Charter.

# The OSCE is being turned into a vulgar instrument for securing the foreign policy interests of one or a group of countries against other countries.

# The NATO enlargement process has nothing to do with modernising the alliance itself or ensuring security in Europe.

Russia is a country with more than a thousand years of history, and it has almost always enjoyed the privilege of pursuing an independent foreign policy. We are not going to change this tradition today.
